Communicating this charity’s impressive legacy in Glasgow’s complex history of urban renewal
Outline
Founded in 1982, Glasgow Building Preservation Trust (GBPT) has spent four decades breathing new life into some of the city’s most neglected historic buildings. To celebrate their 40th anniversary, they partnered with Mambo Video to create a short documentary capturing the spirit, impact, and evolution of their work.
Challenge
Despite GBPT’s long-standing role in shaping the city, many people still don’t fully understand what the Trust does — or the scale of the challenges they take on. The film needed to bridge that gap, telling the story of an organisation that quietly transforms forgotten spaces into community assets. It also had to reflect a broader cultural shift: a growing appreciation among Glaswegians for their architectural heritage and the value of preserving it.
Results
We created a documentary that helped GBPT articulate four decades of impact to audiences who'd never encountered their work. By contextualising GBPT's role in Glasgow's complex urban renewal history, the film strengthened their case with funders and stakeholders, positioning them as essential voices in the city's future development. The documentary reached thousands of viewers and became a strategic communications tool that continues to support their advocacy and funding efforts.
