Telling the story behind Glasgow’s most ambitious arts venue
Outline
Nestled in Glasgow’s West End, SWG3 is one of the UK’s most dynamic and progressive multi-disciplinary arts venues. Rooted in a vibrant community of artists, designers, musicians and creative businesses, With a bold vision to transform underused industrial buildings into world-class creative spaces, SWG3 has become a hub where grassroots energy meets global ambition.
Mambo Video were approached to create a powerful overview film as part of SWG3’s capital fundraising campaign for their latest project – The Galvanizers, a newly acquired warehouse space set to be the next phase in SWG3’s expansion. Our goal was to produce a compelling, cinematic piece that captured the energy, character, and potential of this unique venue.
Challenge
At a pivotal moment in its development, SWG3 needed to secure planning permission and attract significant capital investment. Yet there remained a lingering misconception about what SWG3 actually was and what went on within its walls. To move forward, they needed a film that did two things:
Clearly communicate the nature and scale of SWG3 as it exists today.
Powerfully convey the vision for The Galvanizers – a key piece in their ambition to transform this disused urban space into a globally recognised centre for creativity.
The challenge was not just to inform, but to inspire confidence among key stakeholders, local authorities, and the wider public.
Results
We produced a flagship overview film that told the SWG3 story with clarity, heart and ambition. The video served as a core asset in their funding campaign – contributing directly to planning approval from Glasgow City Council and unlocking crucial support from other stakeholders.
Alongside this, we created a shorter promotional cut for use on SWG3’s website and social channels – giving the general public and potential customers a vibrant, engaging window into the venue’s unique atmosphere and evolving spaces.
The result? A film that not only helped secure the future of The Galvanizers, but also reaffirmed SWG3’s position as one of the most important cultural spaces in the UK.
